Plumber in Hyattsville, MD
Hyattsville has streetcar-era houses with cast iron stacks a block from brand new townhouses. We repair the plumbing in both.
Hyattsville has 100-year-old houses and brand-new ones
Much of Hyattsville is a century old. The Arts District townhouses along Route 1 were built this century.
One street has cast iron from the 1920s. The next has PEX. A historic district house gets a pipe check first, a Route 1 townhouse a fixture check.

Worth knowing here
Streetcar-era houses
From about 1900 into the 1940s, Hyattsville grew along the railroad and the old streetcar line on Rhode Island Avenue. A lot of those houses are still standing, and so is a lot of their pipe.
The historic district, Hyattsville Hills and University Hills are full of them. They were plumbed with galvanized supply and cast iron waste, and many still carry some of it. Those pipes narrow and crack with age, which is why the top floor bath and the basement drain are where trouble starts.
Many of these houses still have plaster walls, and behind that plaster is where the original pipe often runs. Plaster takes more care to open than drywall, so we plan the opening first.
What Hyattsville calls us for
Low pressure in the top floor bath
The bathroom farthest from the meter loses pressure first when galvanized closes up. Replacing that run brings it back.
Cracked cast iron stacks
Old cast iron stacks scale inside and crack at the hubs. A camera shows where before anything is opened.
Arts District townhouses
The newer townhouses near Route 1 have modern plumbing. Their calls are water heaters, fixtures and the odd leak behind a finished wall.
Basements near the Northwest Branch
If your house sits low near the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia and water comes up through a basement floor drain, the main line gets checked first.
Rentals near the University of Maryland
Hyattsville sits just south of College Park. Landlords with student rentals call for toilets, drains and water heaters between leases.
Older houses on Queens Chapel Road
The postwar houses off Queens Chapel Road and in West Hyattsville are reaching the age where shutoffs, toilets and water heaters fail one after another.
