How much should it cost to replace a 50 gallon electric water heater?

A 50 gallon electric heater is usually the simplest replacement there is. We do not publish a set figure, because the same tank can sit in very different places, but you get the price in writing after a free look.

Electric heaters have no vent and no gas line. A like for like electric swap skips the two things that move a gas replacement price the most.

What still moves the cost is where it sits, whether the system needs an expansion tank, whether a pan is required because a finished room is below, and where the relief line can discharge. The circuit feeding it must suit the new unit too.

Going from electric to gas turns it into another project altogether, with new gas piping and venting, and it is quoted that way.

Electric tanks are also common in condos and apartments, often in a closet beside a bedroom or a laundry. In those spots the drain pan and a clear route out of the unit for the old tank matter as much as the heater, and both are on the written price.
