How does leak detection work?
Leak detection works by ruling things out. Cutting holes until something turns up is how walls get ruined.
It starts with a water leak test at the meter. Every fixture is turned off. If the meter still moves, water is leaving the system somewhere, and the test also tells you the leak is real before anyone spends money looking for it.
Next the system is split up. Closing valves on parts of the supply shows which section is losing water. Pressure, moisture readings and the run of the pipe through the walls and floors narrow it further.
A leak detector on its own, whether that is a moisture meter or a pressure gauge, only tells you where water is or is not. The method is what finds where the leak started, which is rarely where the stain shows.
You are shown where we believe the leak is before anything is opened, so the repair takes one considered opening instead of several.
Want it looked at?
Turn everything off and check whether the meter still moves. Tell us what it did when you book, and the search starts from there.
