How much does Home Depot usually charge to install a water heater?
Only the store can tell you that, and we will not guess at its pricing. What we can give you is the checklist for comparing their installation quote with ours, or with anyone else’s.
Ask every quote the same questions. Is the permit included? Are the expansion tank, the drain pan and a new relief valve line included where code calls for them? Is the old tank hauled away? On a gas heater, is the vent checked and sized for the new unit?
Then ask who actually does the installation and who you call if a connection leaks a month later. The warranty on the work and the maker’s warranty on the tank are two separate things.
Our price comes in writing after a free look, with every one of those items listed.
One more thing worth checking on any big store quote is who is actually coming to your house. Ask whether the installer works for the store or for an outside company, whether they are insured, and who pulls the permit in your county or in the District.
